The formal goodbye

"The scariest thing about distance is that you don't know whether they'll miss you or forget you." - Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook
I took a risk when I decided to move abroad- I knew it would be the ultimate test of my relationships at home. Moving for the nine months of the school year- let alone nine months at all- is hard no matter where you're going or what you're leaving behind. However, I am so grateful for the family and friends I have and even though I will miss them terribly, I have to take advantage of the opportunities offered to me.
Today was my formal goodbye party, and I have to say by the end I was more scared than ever to leave. It was my last "I should pull out now, I don't know what I'll do without them" moment. It was so great to see everyone that I care about and who cares about me under one roof for the last time for a long while. The hardest thing about leaving is having to cope without them.

I am so thankful for everyone who has loved and supported me through everything I have gone through recently, and just been great company to keep. Thank you to everyone who came today and even to those who couldn't make it. I can't tell you how blessed I feel to know each and every one of you. Mi mancherete e penserò a voi quotidiano!
